Unlocking your Potential

January Reflection

How’s 2023 been for you so far? It’s hard to believe we are already at the end of January! Are you on track to achieve your goals this year? Whether you made resolutions or set personal or professional goals, it’s a great time to reflect on your progress with us in deaf club and adjust your actions if needed.

Personal goals may have included things like: to exercise more, improve your mental health, learn a new skill, reduce debt, decorate a room or improve your relationships. Professional goals are also hugely varied, for example: to get a job, advance in your career, improve your performance, increase your productivity or expand your network.

We understand that goal setting can be a challenge, especially for us in the deaf community as we may face additional barriers to achieving certain goals. That’s why we’re here to help. Our community is dedicated to supporting one another in reaching our full potential and accomplishing our deaf goals.

Our answer to  “ Can a deaf person …? ”  – is yes.

Below are some helpful tips, using the SMART method, to goal setting:

Goal Setting

S – Specific: Clearly define what you want to achieve, making sure it is specific and well-defined. Ask yourself questions like “What do I want to achieve?”, “Why is this goal important to me?”, and “What are the specific steps I need to take to achieve this goal?”

M – Measurable: Make sure your goal can be quantified and measured. This helps you track progress and determine when you have achieved your goal. Ask yourself questions like “How will I know when I have achieved this goal?” and “What metrics can I use to measure progress?”

A – Attainable: Ensure that your goal is achievable and realistic. Consider your resources, skills, and other factors that could impact your ability to achieve your goal. Ask yourself questions like “Do I have the necessary skills, resources, and support to achieve this goal?”, “Is this goal within reach for me?”, “What do I need to make sure this happens?”

R – Relevant: Make sure your goal is relevant and aligned with your values and priorities. Ask yourself questions like “Why is this goal important to me?” and “How does this goal align with my overall purpose and goals?”

T – Time-Bound: Give yourself a deadline to achieve your goal. This helps you stay motivated and focused on your goal. Ask yourself questions like “When do I want to achieve this goal by?” and “What specific steps can I take to meet this deadline?”

By following this SMART goal setting method, you can create effective, achievable goals that will help you reach your full potential and succeed in both your personal and professional life.

We support the difficulties and celebrate the wins, together!

Remember, goal setting is an ongoing process that requires honesty and self-reflection. As we embark on February, a month of love and friendship, let’s come together as a deaf network and support each other on this journey. Embrace the opportunities ahead with open hearts and minds, be kind to yourself and others, and cherish the all small moments this year.

Happy February!
