Busy, or productive?

Just a quick update.  It’s been an extremely productive week and the time seems to have escaped me!  I’m sat here reflecting on what I’ve achieved this week and it’s actually a lot more than I realised!  I’m giving myself a high-five (or does that make it a clap?!)

Reflection is so important (perhaps I’ll delve into that in my next post) and it’s got me thinking about what I consider to be an ‘achievement’….

What is an Achievement?

  1. Accomplishment of something difficult: Have you done something difficult or challenging? This could be anything you personally consider difficult or challenging. It can vary, depending on the sort of day you’re having. I’ve had some challenging days this week! And then there are the everyday deaf achievements of keeping up in a world that needs more access.

  2. Progress towards a goal: Is there something you didn’t fully ‘achieve’ but that you worked towards? Progress towards a goal, even if the goal is not fully accomplished still counts. There is success in the small steps you take towards a larger goal, rather than just the final outcome.

  3. Recognition: have you been noticed or thanked for your achievements this week? Or perhaps for helping others achieve theirs?

  4. Personal fulfilment: Do you consider happiness to be an achievement? Both personally and professionally, are you happy? This can also mean you finding joy in everyday activities, hobbies, and relationships, and feeling a sense of satisfaction with your life overall.

  5. Overcoming obstacles: Have you had a setbacks which you’ve managed to overcome? This is success and recognising these times can also promote a big sense of achievement.

When I break down my week like this, despite feeling ‘busy’ and rushed, I have in fact achieved a lot and it also helps to see the areas where I need to work in the week ahead (see also Goal Setting).

As always, you’re welcome to hop into Deaf Club, our online deaf community and share your achievements and we’ll celebrate them with you! It’s more enjoyable to have a virtual high-five, than clap your own hands!

I hope you’ve all had a great week – let’s go and achieve more this week!
