The importance of doing what you love can’t be understated. You’ve probably heard the phrase, “ Do what you love and love what you do ”. We’re all here for a limited time, wouldn’t you prefer to spend that time doing something you’re passionate about?
As deaf people we still don’t receive the same opportunities as hearing people. But if you know what you want and where to look, anything can be done.
Deafness and the Benefits of Doing What You Love
1. Personal Fulfilment & Happiness – this is one of the biggest reasons for doing something you’re passionate about. You can experience a deeper connection with your true self. This alignment will lead to greater happiness and overall well being.
2. Increased Motivation and Commitment – it can be hard work to show up everyday to work towards your goals. But if you’re passionate then it fuels your desire to keep working at it and to overcome challenges. In fact deaf people are used to this in daily life and can apply these skills of resilience and persistence
3. Enhanced Creativity and Innovation – when you’re passionate and invested in what you’re doing, you’re far more likely to be creative and be receptive to new ideas. Expanding your mind about what’s possible, encourages your own creativity.
How to Discover Your Passions
Lots of us struggle with identifying what we’re truly passionate about. There are a few things we can ask ourselves which might help to uncover your own. Ask yourself:
– What activities make me lose track of time and feel completely absorbed?
– What are the moments in my life when I felt most alive and fulfilled?
– If money were no object, what would I choose to do with my time?
– What are my core values, and how do they align with my current pursuits?
– Am I passionate about my current career or path, or am I just following others expectations?
– What risks am I willing to take to pursue my passions, and what potential regrets might I have if I don’t?
Doing what you love is not as impossible as you might feel. It is a powerful catalyst for personal growth and fulfilment. By asking yourself important questions and understanding the reasons behind your answers, you can make informed decisions and work towards your personal aspirations.
And it doesn’t have to mean just one thing! In the end, living a life driven by passion is a key ingredient to happiness. So dare to dream. Follow your heart. Do the work and find yourself closer to living the life you want to live.
